Why we created EPM

Jan and Emma have worked together for over 15 years, we have complimentary skills; Emma’s tenacity and attention to detail against Jan’s wide experience and knowledge, clients say we make a great team so we created EPM to help organisations realise their visions, aspirations and objectives.

We can be relied on to get the job done whilst engineering a spirit of collaboration. Clients really value our calm and methodical hands-on approach and our ability to work with stakeholders / team members to shape a clear brief and deliverables then bring people together to achieve that common goal.

We are renowned for creating order out of chaos and being a safe pair of hands, thriving on challenging deadlines and particularly complicated challenges to achieve a successful outcome. We provide clear direction, transparent and honest reporting whether giving good or bad news including ideas and solutions for problem solving and resolution.

Between Emma and Jan we have 45 years of project management experience with a wide range of public and private sector organisations and have a strong reputation for consistent delivery. There is nothing that overwhelms us, even managing scores of stakeholders!

Jan Ponsford

I have been interested in construction since I was 7 years old when I “helped” my dad build our Swedish timber-framed home in 1976 in a small village in Surrey. My love of construction has not weaned in 25 years, and I don’t think it ever will. I have had the privilege of leading many major high profile complex NHS, higher education and commercial capital projects ranging in value from £5m to £350m and have been deeply involved in shaping the brief through to handing over the keys. I have a unique perspective because I have worked as a contractor, as a consultant project manager and as a client.

I get a real joy from building loyal teams that play to their individual strengths and pull together towards a common goal.

I have always had a passion for the environment which shows in every project I deliver, and ran a renewable energy consultancy for a few years and learned so much.
When I’m not at work my passion is being outdoors, particularly on water, my hobbies include sailing, surfing and canoeing. I enjoy being able to harness the power of the wind and the sea. I have three children 23, 19 and 17 and feel blessed and incredibly proud of them and what they are achieving in their lives.

I am renowned for creating order out of chaos and being a safe pair of hands. I’m organised and methodical with a deep attention to detail, I love working to a deadline. I enjoy all parts of project management, though I particularly like a complicated challenge and battling against the odds to achieve a successful outcome.
I have delivered a range of complex and challenging capital and revenue projects for public and private sector clients, I have worked client-side, as a contractor and as a consultant. I also have a strong track record in obtaining funding and winning bids. My experience covers public realm, offices, housing, decarbonisation, infrastructure, manufacturing and museums.

One of my career highlights was being appointed to recover and ensure delivery of a struggling project which was already being constructed on site for Oxford University NHS Trust. I Identified key challenges and implemented strategic solutions whilst maintaining project delivery to programme. The project was critical because the new facility had to support the most severely mentally ill children in the region. I engaged with the right stakeholders and built collaborative relationships in difficult circumstances. I implemented clear governance to support successful communication and management of significant change.

When I’m not working, I love to look after my family. I spend a lot of time outdoors rock climbing, mountain biking, road cycling, running, hiking and skiing.

I have worked with Jan for 15 years, we have complimentary skills; my attention to detail against his wide experience, client’s say we make a great team.
